When founder Robert Harridge was running a marathon, he noticed another runner who was running barefoot. He thought to himself, "I wonder if I can do that!" Robert began training barefoot and found that although it was awkward at first, he was able to run barefoot without difficulty. Upon this realization he began to consider how he could use this ability to create positive change in the world. He began to talk about his dream with people, and the idea for "Barefoot Across America" was born. Robert will run across the continent to benefit children nationwide. Running barefoot for that distance might seem like the hard part to most people, but the hard part is actually picking a worthy cause.
The criteria is quite simple. We are looking for a non-profit organization, preferably one that works to help sick children, that believes in this project and is willing to support our vision to raise $1 million. We are not looking for our charity to invest a single dollar into this project, but we ask that they invest time and resources to help us make this work. The sacrifice on our end will be great and we cannot do it without an organization that is willing to work to make this possible.
We are open to any organization who meets this basic criteria.
